The Winchester Model 1895 is an excellent woods rifle with the most modern features from America's best gun designer and fascinating history. The scalloped receiver, which is more durable than the original flat-sided action, is present on all current versions, High Grade and Model 1895. The sights are a long, windage-adjustable blade with a brass tip up front and a semi-buckhorn elevator wedge at the back. The design has a receiver with an open top that secures at the back using a rising lug. The operational lever is made up of three complex parts: the primary lever, a short cantilever trigger plate, and a hinged locking bar that is forced down by the base of the hand when the action is cycled. Rebound hammers only make contact with the firing pin when the trigger is pressed. The presence of a tang safety is the primary mechanical modification. The barrel measures 24" in length, has a moderately tapered profile, and is richly blued overall, as well as the receiver. The diameter of the barrel is 0.72 inches, and the muzzle crown is slightly recessed. The internal magazine can hold 4+1 bullets. There are now two chamberings available for the Model 1895: .30-06 and .405 Win. The sights are a Marble's gold-bead front and a Buckhorn-style rear. A standard elevator is used to adjust the back sight. A side-mount aperture sight is drilled and tapped onto the left side of the receiver. The rifle requires very little maintenance and is totally reliable. It was proven in the American West, by law enforcement officials, and in the Great War. The Winchester 1895 is both a fully functioning rifle and a piece of history.
