A series called Kimber LW is built around the 1911 base. Kimber produced a special edition of modified lightweight handguns to reduce the cost of the 1911 a little bit. These versions have a weight-reducing aluminum frame and come in .45ACP or 9mm, with an 8- or 9-round magazine. They feature an attractive Gray laminate or Cocobolo laminate grip with a patterned gripping area for a firm grip and good stability, a white dot rear sight, and a red fiber optic front sight for fast target identification. If you're looking for something to shoot with in a competition, a Vortex Venom 6MOA Dot Optic is available on some models. The primary distinction between LW versions is in the optics.
