B and T APC9 Pro - The Subgun King

Updated 24 months ago

Hey, everybody, welcome back to gun.deals. Today on the table I have a B&T APC9 Pro chambered in 9mm.

Let’s get this review started.

All right, everybody, let me show you what it comes with in the box, before we continue, it comes with this huge hard case and in there… it comes with, obviously a user manual, comes with one 30-round mag if your state allows it, it comes with a cleaning kit which is always nice, although it’s a little empty, that’s your cleaning kit, and it comes with 1 point sling with a little hook attachment, unfortunately I do not have that to hand to show you but it does come with the sling also.

What does it not come with, it does not come with this SB tactical brace here, but I do love tactical braces so obviously if you’re going to SBR you can throw in a stock or whatever you want, and it does not come with the Holosun. This is a 40R Holosun Rotary. I had this for a couple of years, it’s done great, zero issues with it, very, very impressed with that Holosun.

Let’s get started, so, yeah, it does not come with this. Now, to change this out, it’s actually very, very easily, it’ll come with an end plate, like so, and all you need to do is there’s a screw in here, it’s actually a hex-screw and using the Allen key take that out, take the screw out. You can pop that back piece off and then push this in and then just put the screw back in. Very simple to do and I definitely recommend at least putting a brace on it, SBR on it, it would definitely add to your enjoyment.

Moving along this upper is actually a monolithic upper, it’s all one piece, it does have 1913 pic rail all the way along the top there so you can obviously put on your iron sights, optic or whatever you need and it does have some 1913, it’s almost like a quad rail right, you have a 1913 pic rail here, here and on the bottom.

pic-rail

I call these magpul, these magpul things like rubber ladders, I can’t remember the real name for them but I put this on so it doesn’t chew my hands up but it just makes it a little more comfortable. You can actually remove the side pieces but there’s a couple of screws, you can take them off and there’s actually M-LOK slots under there so if you have a weapon light already and it’s M-LOK you can take that off and put that on but it does give you some extra real estate if you do need it which is helpful with either M-LOK or 1913 pic rails.

So, yeah, very cool upper.

We do have an ambi-charging handle and kind of the cool thing here is like you just pull this tab down and it’s actually on both sides, like so, so it’s completely ambidextrous and that is your charging handle and they just fall back in… kind of puts them out the way and keeps them snagging on things, so kind of cool, I do like that.

ambi-charging-handle

Below this hand guard here we have almost 7-inch cold hammer-forged barrel, it’s a 1:10 twist with a half by 28 thread pitch and we do have a Tri Lug adapter that does come standard with this model and I actually like that because my DeadAir Wolfman that I suppress my SB5 with does have a Tri Lug adapter and so it fits on perfectly.

The first hundred rounds or so I was zeroing my optic and just kind of get some initial shots done actually I’ll ruin an image now the kind of the shots below the red center target was me just getting it zeroed and then you’ll notice there’s a couple of two or three shots right in the center there. That is after I zeroed my optic at 25 yards, pinpoint accurate so at least at 25 yards we know this is definitely very, very accurate.

shots

Moving down, the lower is actually polymer and it’s all ambidextrous, you’ve got an ambidextrous safety on either side. The left hand safety for us right-handed shooters actually is really nice because the pad is actually enlarged and has some serrations on it and so it makes it very easy to actuate. It is enlarged on the other side, on the right hand side for left-handed shooters, but it’s not wide as the left-hand side but very easy to actuate.

left-hand-safety

Moving along here we have a bolt catch and release it and again, it’s completely ambidextrous and them moving down, we have an ambidextrous mag release on either side so completely ambi-lower and an ambi-charging handle so very nice indeed.

Moving down you have this polymer grip here and you can change this out pretty much to any kind of AR-15 grip that you want. You want to keep this on, that’s fine, it does have a little storage compartment on at the bottom, but it’s nice you can switch this out with such commonly available parts which is very nice.

polymer-grip

Coming to the trigger, the trigger is not too shabby at all, so let’s have a look here, it almost feels like a two-stage trigger, so you got this take-up and you’ve got the wall. The take-up is very smooth, but it feels you right at the wall and it’s predictable every time because you’re right there and for shooting it made it really nice. You got to say a little bit take-up at the wall. You got a pretty decent break there, it’s not too heavy and then you got the reset, a little bit of let out, and then you’ve got that thunk.

trigger

For me the reset could be a little more tactile a little more crisp, I’m not a huge fan of the thunk but it’s not a bad trigger right out the box. At the bottom here we obviously have the mag well right here. I would have like to see this being flared a little bit. Never had any issues getting the mag in there but I would have liked to have seen that maybe just flared out a little bit just for easier insertions.

To take this down, it’s very similar to AR -15, you have pins on just front and back here, you’re gonna push them through. So, push those pins through and then obviously just pull down on your lower so again this is your lower right here and then to take this piece off you’re actually just gonna push down or if you put down on the table you’re gonna pull up, and it just slides out, you got to just, it’s just a little bit and it just pulls off like so, and here is your upper, you’re gonna pull back on the bolt, the charging handle, there’s your guide rod and spring. If you ever seen this there’s a little pin right here that goes through and if you have it lined up perfectly it will very easily drop out, if you do not have, just like so, so that just dropped out, so as I say once you lined it up it will just pop right out, once you done that pull back on your charging handle again and take out your bolt and that is your stripped upper. All right, and then just go in reverse, put it back together.

take-down

We’re back together, so, yeah, let’s go back and talk about shooting. I told you the first 100 yards or so unsuppressed, just getting the optic zeroed, pinpoint accurate. I feel like most guns do fine until they’re suppressed, right, and a lot of guns have issues being suppressed such as the MPX, so I threw this on because I wanted to see how it would do so first hundred yards, that was unsuppressed, the rest of the shooting was all suppressed and I’m glad to say I had absolutely zero issues, actual fact, it just made this even more of a smoother shooter, so I’ve been about two, 250 rounds suppressed, zero, zero issues, very nice to shoot indeed.

Let’s talk about the lore, a little bit more about the lore. With this lore, this takes B&T mags, this mags are approximately 45 dollars. Not a huge fan of these mags, I feel like for the price they feel pretty dang cheap, there’s no metal reinforcements at the top or anything like that. Obviously I haven’t torture tested these magazines, but they definitely do feel very cheap, especially for the price of them, so I’m not sure I feel about these long term, we’ll see what happens.

However, if you don’t wanna buy those mags like, let’s say, they’re kind of expensive and if you want to use your Glock mags, that almost everybody has, you can buy a different lower for this gun that actually does take Glock mags so that’s nice you can either buy it with Glock, you know, buy it ready to go with Glock for Glock mags or you can obviously buy it like this and then you can switch the lowers in and out however you please so it does give you some options right there which is kind of cool.

mag

Another thing I told you I don’t like, I think that sling attachment is pretty lazy and I think for, again for this price of a gun it really should be improved upon and then the iron sights, the backup sights on the iron they’re plastic. They feel kind of cheap to me, I think the magpul sights you get that can, you know, they’re polymer magpul sights feel like a lot better quality, but I don’t know about you, I actually don’t tend to use my backup irons a lot, I make sure they’re zeroed and things are good to go but I usually run a red dot anyway. So, they work just fine, they are there if you need them, I just don’t think they’re the particularly the best quality.

So, other than that it’s a very cool gun, shooting it was amazing. I’m not a big fan of the ergos of this gun, when I see it I was always like ‘UH’, you know like, I think the MP5, SP5, MPX just screams like ‘Dang, that’s a good looking gun!’

shooting

Obviously it doesn’t matter how it looks, right, it’s how it shoots, well, that’s what we say to ourselves, but actually shooting was absolutely fantastic, I really, really like shooting this gun, again, it was very accurate, very smooth, considering it’s a blowback design, especially suppressed, it really show when I put that suppressor on it, it was just awesome and this is actually, not this particular model with B&T does have the APC9, I believe it’s the K-model that they are using currently for the military so these are military approved, military use guns, they are good to go. They are made in Switzerland if anyone cares about that, but in saying all of that it is a bit of an expensive gun.

bye-bye
