Sig Sauer P226 MK25

Updated 21 months ago

Hey, everybody, welcome back to gun.deals. Today, on the table, we have a very iconic pistol, this is the SIG Sauer P226 Mark 25. Let’s get this review started.

Alright, folks, as I said, this is the Mark 25, used by the Navy Seals from approximately 1987 for the next like two decades, like 20 years or so, until they started switching out to the Glock 19.

The P226 line is extremely iconic, well-known, probably the one of the most reliable pistols ever made, in my humble opinion. So, these are excellent, excellent line of firearms, so, yeah, let’s go over.

What I’m gonna do, I’m gonna change the camera and go around, we’ll put this down on the table so you guys get a nice close look at it and I’ll be right back with you.

Let’s just eject the mag, it does come with three 15-round mags, if your state allows it, but, yeah, let’s go ahead and take a nice close look at this, we’re gonna start with the grips, these are polymer grips, it has your texturing all the way around. If you want, you can change that, obviously, you can see you’ve got some screws here, you can take these off and replace them if you wish.

You do have some really nice texturing on the front there, as you can see, and it’s also on the front of the trigger guard right there too. It does have a kind of a slight beaver tail right here, and it does have a bit of a cut under the trigger guard here, so you can get a very nice grip of the pistol. This is a full-size pistol. I have medium-sized hands and I can fit on there just fine.

Moving up we do have the mag release right there, and you can see we do have some nice texturing on it, and then moving up again we do have a double… this is the decocker because this is a double action/single action pistol, and we’ll go over what that means, if you’re not aware of that, in just a second. We do have the slide lock release right here and, again, you can see we’ve got some serrations on there.

Moving along we do have the takedown lever right here, and then, moving along again we do have a 1913 pic-rail right here, and right here we have a UID number, this is for the military, so they basically scan that barcode and they can put in the armory and register and things like that, so it’s kind of a historic thing, they just put on there, some people really like that.

They do have some markings up here for SIG Sauer P226, and obviously we have the anchor right here, representing this is a Navy gun, obviously it was designed for the Navy Seals.

Some of the differences between this and say a regular P226 is going to be the finishes, internally and externally for corrosion resistance, so in the inside and partially outside we do have phosphate finishes to help with that corrosion.

The slide is a stainless steel and the coating on here is a nitron finish that they’ve put on there, again, to help with that corrosion resistance, so very nice.

Let’s go to the trigger on here, this is a double action/single action trigger, as I said, so the first pull you’re gonna have is a long pull, it’s still smooth, it’s about 10-pound pull, like so, and so when you carry this in a double action it’s obviously a lot safer because it does take a lot to pull that trigger.
Once the trigger has been pulled and the gun has been racked at the hammer’s back, you go into a single action. The slide is a stainless steel and the coating on here is a nitron finish that they’ve put on there, again, to help with that corrosion resistance, so very nice.

Moving up to the top here you will…alright, let’s go to the trigger on here, this is a double action/single action trigger, as I said, so the first pull you’re gonna have is a long pull, it’s still smooth, it’s about 10-pound pull like so, and so when you carry this gun in a double action it’s obviously a lot safer because it does take a lot to pull that trigger. Once the trigger has been pulled and the gun has been racked at the hammer’s back you go into a single action.

Single action, it shortens that trigger pull and it is a lot lighter also, like so, and that trigger pull is approximately 4.5 pounds. You can get what’s called a short reset trigger to improve this, trigger, the reset, and things like that, if you want to upgrade the trigger you can do, so there is that option.

As I mentioned, this is a decocker. Because when this goes in a single action this is a very light pull and if you have to re-holster this firearm or whatever, you need to make it into a safer condition, you know, it doesn’t have an external safety, you would just pull down on this tab here and that would drop the hammer back into the double action meaning that you would have that 10-pound trigger pull again, so, yeah, if you’re in this condition you’ve had fired your gun, you’ve like “I’ve got to put the gun down, I’ve got a holster”, whatever you got to do, and you want to make that gun a little bit more safer, just drop the decocker and, as I say, that’ll put it back into double action.

Moving up to the sights, we do have these 3-white sights right here, these are tritium night sights also, they do glow green in the dark and these sights work great. On the other side here we have nothing at all here, so this is not an ambidextrous gun in any kind of way, so sorry for you lefties out there.
Obviously we have an external extractor right here. Going obviously on the slide here also we do have some serrations on the back and they’re pretty aggressive, you can get a nice grip on that to wreck the gun, but you’ll notice there is no serrations on the front here for press checking or anything like that.

To take this gun down you’re going to pull the slide back, you’re gonna push up the slide lock, you’re gonna push down the takedown lever like so, and then you’re gonna pull the slide back, and then push it forward and it will come off.

Let’s take a look inside here, you have your guide rod and spring. The guide rod is metal, so that’s your metal guide rod and there’s your spring.
Your barrel is approximately 4.4 inches, it’s actually chrome-lined and it has a phosphate finish, again, for that corrosion resistance, so that is your barrel.

SIG Sauer is known for doing excellent craftsmanship on their firearms, the fit and finish inside here is excellent, very smooth, very nice indeed.
Then we go to the lore, that lore is actually the slightest stainless steel, this lure is actually an alloy and we do have almost a full-length rail system right here, which I do really like also, and then you can just see in the inside here.

To put that back together just grab your barrel, slide that back in like so, take your guide rod and spring, put that in, push it forward, make sure it’s in place, and then just slide your slide on, lock it back, push the lever back up, pull that go forward, and then function check and we’re back together.

The P226, not even just the Mark 25, but the P226 has an amazing history, it’s been used in militaries, police forces, private ownership, you name it. These are one of probably the most reliable firearms ever made, and that, again, that’s my humble opinion. I think these are absolutely phenomenal firearms, it’s a classic, you know, I think everyone should own a P226 for sure.

How was shooting this gun?

It’s awesome, I mean, now this guns do have a slightly higher bore axis than some other pistols, it doesn’t bother me, but, again, very accurate gun, very, very nice to shoot, it’s got a good trigger on there. Obviously, I’ve had absolutely no problems, I mean, P226 is not just this one, I’ve had thousands and thousands of rounds that three different P226’s, I never had a problem with any of them, just phenomenal, phenomenal guns.

Highly recommended, it is a cool one, as I say, if you want that connection to like the Navy Seals or, you know, maybe you want the anchor because you’re maybe ex-Navy or something like that. Very cool, iconic gun, highly, highly recommended.
