The FN FNS is a short-recoil-operated semi-auto pistol in 9mm & 40 S&W calibers. It uses a striker-fired trigger system (hammerless, double action only). The FN FNS has a hammer-forged stainless-steel barrel, Picatinny rail (for mounting accessories), and fixed three-dot combat sights (standard or night sights). More standard features include a loaded chamber indicator, an ambidextrous magazine release, and a slide-stop release lever. The FN FNS has four safety features: trigger, firing pin, drop, and out-of-battery safety. The FN FNS series includes a Long Slide, Compact, and Full-Size version, available in a standard black or two-tone finish.
