Smith & Wesson's new Volunteer line of AR rifles quickly gained attention in 2022. When compared to an ordinary AR, the gun provided an improved trigger, better ergonomics, lightweight, and flat-recoiling package right out of the box. There are four groups of rifles, Volunteer XV, Volunteer XV OR, Volunteer XV PRO, and Volunteer XV DMR, and 11 models total in the groups at launch. The standard adoption of the flat-faced triggers, which are becoming more and more common, is one of the new features of the entire Volunteer series. A B5 Bravo adjustable stock and a B5 pistol grip (with a steeper grade angle than conventional MSR grips) are included with the Volunteer VX, allowing the user to position their trigger finger properly. The Bravo Company's forend has many M-LOK slots for additional attachments. All of the features of the Volunteer XV are present in the Volunteer XV OR, but it also includes a low-profile Picatinny mount gas block that gives the user a better sight image. The mid-length gas system in the Volunteer XV Pro rifles provides a smooth recoil cycle. A 15" free-floating handguard with M-LOK slots is included with the Volunteer XV Pro forend to enable attachment mounting as close to the gun's muzzle as possible. A B5 pistol grip and B5 Sopmod stock are also included with the XV Pro, allowing for the best cheek fit and functioning as housing for optic batteries. The Volunteer VX DMR is made for better accuracy at longer ranges with its rifle-length gas system. A 15" free-floating handguard holds a 20" barrel in place. The barrel is finished off with a PWS muzzle brake, a B5 pistol handle, and a B5 Sopmod stock, just like the Volunteer VX Pro.
