REVIEW:

Amazing accuracy for the price. Purchased this and a $450 Krieger DCM 20″ Stainless 1:7.7 target crown match barrel in 223 at the same time for a bench/target build and compared in the same upper.

I was amazed that this barrel out shot it with cheap Hornady 55gr SP over 25.2gr (use at your own risk) Max charges of H335.

It’s not QUITE a fair comparison since the Krieger was .750″ from the gas block forward whereas this is .936″ and an HBAR.

I can get 5 shots into .35″ at 50 yards repeatedly and sometimes better. And it’s still not broken in yet (under 100 rounds through it).

I tested the Krieger with 77gr Nosler HPBT Match and it did even a little better than that at around .32″ at 50 yards but of course that’s heavy match. I’m sure both barrels could do better with higher end parts and maybe a better shooter. But with all held constant, I felt it was a fair comparison and was very pleased with the price of this barrel for the accuracy it provides. I have a relative with a Browning A-Bolt in 308 and this will out shoot that by a long shot. Of course he uses factory ammo, but for what it’s worth, this is a very nice barrel.

5 stars! 10 stars for the price if I could give it.

Details on the setup used:
-free float round tube upper (actually just a free float barrel nut with a 12.5″ piece of PVC pipe with a couple of slits to fit over the nut and hose clamp over that. Cheap and ugly but works GREAT!)
-Anderson .936″ gas block (nice that it has 4 set screws)
-Anderson rifle length gas tube
-Lower with nice match trigger (smith tuned mil spec trigger)
-Centerpoint 4-16×40 scope (may do better with a higher quality scope)

Anyways, summary… great barrel. Very impressed. The ONLY downside I can see is that it’s heavy (add a pound vs a mil contour carbine 16″ barrel) and it’s a little nose heavy. But no problem for range shooting or even use in a deer stand. The accuracy is amazing!
