Most complaints with this rifle seem to stem from anything but how well the thing shoots. I looked at what it costs to buy just a milled receiver and we all know the answer to that question. Cheapest I could find was $395 with barrel and they are out of stock and no ETA for new units. So, as long as the receiver alone has to go through an FFL and price for a barreled milled receiver alone is more than half the cost of this C39, the choice was simple. Now, for all you AK purists, this is not the rifle for you but there are still plenty of nice originals out there for around $2,000. All a matter of what fits your tastes. I was looking for a quality milled receiver AK variant that I can shoot. The C39 fits this category.

I did my homework on this model and then passed for several reasons e.g. US barrel, proprietary parts, lack of a side rail and mismatched dust cover. Also, I've read several posts and viewed a few video reviews of people that claim it has some feeding and bolt issues. Of course, some people say that they have never experienced any of those issues. But the bottom line is that it is overpriced for carrying the Century Arms name and there are just better offerings out there e.g. Yugo M70's. If Century were smart, then they would offer these at a much lower price and win through volume.

Homework? I don't think so. For one, there's nothing wrong with US barrels. Given that imported barrels are no longer allowed, guess what you're gonna see on rifles in the future? No side rail is a "show stopper" for you? Wow, then that eliminates a lot of AKs for you; plus it is pretty easy to add one if so desired, even to a milled receiver.

Lastly, the mismatched dust cover and selector switch are also a non-issue as both work fine. It is purely aesthetics if you want to replace them (as I did) but the parts that came on the rifle functioned as they should.

As for the PAPs being a better deal, they are good rifles but they are stamped receivers and don't shoot any better than the Centurion. Plus, they too are also non-chrome lined barrels, so why no hubbub about that?

Lastly, the vast majority of Centurion owners are extremely happy with their rifles, myself being one of them. Even at this price they are great deals and only those who have a bias against Century are badmouthing them. If you want to miss out because of someone else's opinion, then it's your loss; but those of us who actually own these rifles are singing their praise and as the increase in price clearly shows, those who miss the boat on them will be kicking themselves in the near future!

The US barrel is not CHF. The Centurion is not made in a military factory which is well-known for producing AK rifles. It is produced by CAI, a company with a less than stellar record. I will give you the chrome lined barrel, but most of the listings for this rifle have been for the version without chrome lining. I am not saying this is a bad rifle, merely that I personally prefer the N-Pap or O-Pap for the reasons above. Also, the Zastava offerings are much less expensive.

These are great rifles, but a far better deal at $599 delivered. Sure, they are heavy; but what milled AK isn't? I am glad I got one when they were still cheap and not so popular, but I think with the PAPs possibly drying up folks are starting to consider this Centurion. That's probably why the price is starting to climb.

As for the chromed/non-chromed barrel, I actually prefer the latter and it's amazing that anyone gets wrapped around the axle about it given that none of the Yugos have chrome barrels.

As for the US flag on the side, I guess after serving in uniform for 25 years I am less "offended" by it on an AK. Actually, I am happy to see more Kalashnikov rifles being built here (Radom is also moving to Texas!), it'll mean we'll have access to more great rifles without being subject to idiotic import restrictions!

$680 is way over the market price; sorry not for me.

I think this (newer) model now includes a chrome lined barrel. Is that worth the extra $80?

There is no "old" and "new" version of this ak. There was however a mixture of non chromed and chromed barrels on these rifles. You can pay this higher price and still end up with a non chrome.

Funny, I don't see people having a case of the ass about the Yugo PAPs not having chrome-lined barrels. Some folks just have to complain, but some of us realize that the chrome/non-chrome barrel debate is not an issue as there are benefits/downsides to both. I have a non-chromed Centurion and it not only shoots fine, but the bore is still nice and shiny after shooting "corrosive" ammo through it. Maintain your equipment properly and it's not an issue...

Price went from $599 to $679 and now its a deal?

These are quality guns, but I am sorry, I do not want a USA Flag and "MADE IN USA" all over my AK. I love that stuff all over my ARs, but my AK needs to have that flare.. You know know, that commie/arab thing going..

I probably will get lots of down votes for this.. lol

You're not going to get thumbs down on this site for saying commie/arab stuff on here. We're gun people remember, that makes us politically incorrect from the start

These were $599 just a week ago. They are heavy too.

It's a milled AK, compared to a stamped one it will always feel heavy. My SLR-95 feels heavy compared to my SGL-20.

As for their being cheaper a week ago, that only means those of us who bought them early are the smart ones. You snooze, you lose.

Go find another milled AK for under $700. Good luck!

I like how you so subtly drop the "fact" that you own 2 arsenals, and then how you are intelligent for buying this POS. You get the D-bag of the week award on gun.deals
