Description

PHP (Prvi Hrvatski Pistolj - first Croatian pistol) is a weapon which was developed in Croatia during its war for independence in early 1990s. Production and quality of this pistol (which was produced in at least two versions, short-barreled PHP MV 9 and long-barreled PHP VM 17) was sporadic, and it was soon replaced in production and use by the HS 2000 pistol.

By design, this pistol represents a mix between Beretta 92 and Walther P38 pistols. The basic short-recoil operated action with vertically tilting locking piece is similar to both pistols, the general appearance of the open-top slide is close to the Walther but the single return spring below the barrel is apparently an Italian influence. Trigger is of traditional double action type, and the safety consists of a manual decocking lever, located on the left side of the grip frame. Magazines are double-stack and hold 15 cartridges (1 mag total with each pistol).

This Croatian weapon is relatively rare, since production ceased after a short run and did not pick up again until after the breakup of the former Yugoslavia was well underway. The weapon is essentially a version of the Walther P-38; though it looks very different externally, the breech locking, trigger, and decocking system are the same. The only real improvement is the high-capacity magazine and the protection for the barrel.

NOTE: Does not come with cleaning rod, holster or oil bottle. Also, these have slight cracks or chips in grips.

Love mine. Like a p38 and a 92f had a baby. Takes 92f mags too.

BUYER BEWARE: The previous owner definitely rapid fired hundreds or thousands of rounds through the gun to get the front end to droop like that.

Are you serious, the Croates couldn't just buy some Hi Point C9's instead of making their own fugly handgun? The Hi Point looks like a beauty queen by comparison, and probably more reliable.

I know this is a late response, but you do realize that this gun was the immediate predecessor to the HS2000 (known here as the Springfield XD), made by the same company, right?
Instead of importing crap, they went through the effort of developing their own stuff, and soon made a very respected gun.

That thing looks like someone in a Dulie ran over it, then backed up and hit it again.

Well, i'm sure there are lots of collectors out there. I believe this is a Croatian surplus handgun, probably lots of Croatians would like to own a piece of their history. I just don't know if there are many or any Croatians in the Wild West.

According to Wikipedia and the United States Census Bureau of Statistics (1990) there were over 544,270 Croatian Americans who identify themselves as being of Croatian descent or being born in Croatia. That's like an entire army :).
