Silver Bear ammo is as Russian as it’s possible for ammo to be. It is made in Russia’s Barnaul plant, it has a steel case and magnetic bullet – and it’s even named after a bear!

This AK-74 round sports a simple 65 grain full metal jacket bullet, which is hard to ensure positive functioning in a semi-auto with a solid point that inhibits any kind of terminal expansion. Its most important feature is its bimetal jacket. The steel it contains fortifies the bullet in lieu of more valuable copper, but needless to say such a bullet will certainly attract a magnet.

Silver Bear ammo takes its name from its lustrous zinc-plated case. Zinc reduces friction as the round slides in and out of a semi-auto, delivering smoother feeding and extraction in the process. Underneath that zinc is a heart of steel, so do take care that you can’t reload this ammo!

Like other Russian manufacturers, Silver Bear implements the cost-effective Berdan primer. A Berdan would substantially complicate reloading, but since steel cases aren’t reloadable that’s hardly a setback. This round’s Berdan primer is 100 percent non-corrosive.
