The Smith & Wesson Model 460 is a large bore, five-shot, SA/DA revolver that can fire the .460 S&W Magnum round. It was created as a hunting revolver for use in Alaska and Africa. The X-Frame, the company's biggest and most robust frame, serves as the foundation for the revolver. Smith & Wesson offers several variants of this revolver (460 ES, 460 V, 460 XVR, ...). One of the most powerful revolvers on the market today, the S&W Model 460XVR, represents an ideal choice for outdoor life. This single/double-action revolver is made of stainless steel with a glass—bead satin finish. It features a square outline green fiber-optic front sight, and adjustable square–notch rear sight. The pistol’s barrel has a unique gain-twist or progressive rifling, a kind of rifling that begins with a slow twist rate and steadily increases down the barrel, for successful handling of the high-pressure cartridge. The Model 460XVR is available in two barrel lengths, 5 and 8.38 inches. Two sets of muzzle brakes help control the gun, considering the considerable recoil that is inevitable when shooting the .460 caliber. Large synthetic rubberized grips provide a firm grasp and even more control. The 8.38-inch variant is slightly more accurate and can take down four-legged predators or deer out to 250 yards.
