The Equalizer, a polymer-framed, micro-compact, 9mm handgun, is one of Smith & Wesson's newest models. Although the Equalizer uses double S&W Shield Plus magazines, it resembles the M&P Shield EZ. The Equalizer, like the Shield EZ, is a single-action rather than a striker-fired handgun, in contrast to the Shield Plus. For now, only the 9mm Luger version is offered. The hammer is placed under the slide. On the Equalizer, Smith & Wesson decided to include a grip safety, and an ambi thumb safety is an optional feature. The Equalizer's slide is optics-ready thanks to a cutout and top plate. The cutout is big enough for the attachment of a variety of wider reflex sights. This pistol only weighs 20.3 ounces unloaded and without a red-dot sight. It only measures 6.9 inches in length and 4.5 inches in height. Its dimensions make it perfect for everyday carry.
